Dear parents and carers of children in Stepney Park Primary School.
The use of school devices to play Roblox and Minecraft
I am writing to inform you of a change regarding children's access to Roblox and Minecraft using school devices, effective from Monday, March 10th.
After careful consideration, we have decided to block access to these games on school devices and networks. This decision has been made for several important reasons:
-
Age Restrictions: Both Roblox and Minecraft have age restrictions that do not align with the age of our primary school pupils.
-
Inappropriate Communication: We have received a significant number of reports of children engaging in inappropriate communication with each other on these platforms. This has required us to dedicate valuable time and resources to address these issues at school.
- Healthy Screen Time: We are committed to promoting healthy screen time habits and preventing potential gaming addictions. We recognise the addictive nature of some online games and the importance of encouraging balanced activities.
We understand that some children enjoy these games, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in supporting this decision. Our priority is to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all our pupils.
We encourage you to discuss this change with your child ahead of time and to reinforce the importance of safe and responsible online behaviour. We also encourage you to promote a healthy balance of screen time and other activities at home.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued support.
Kind regards.
