Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park Primary School.
I hope you are all well. As you will have seen in our class newsletter, we’ve had a very busy and productive start to the school year; it’s great to be here!
Winter coats/ raincoats
As autumn has started to set in, the weather is definitely changing and it is becoming quite unpredictable. This is therefore a good time to remind parents to send children into school with warm coats and to ask you to consider investing in a good raincoat or inexpensive rain poncho, as children would be particularly affected by rain at the end of the day at pickup time or when they are going on trips/ swimming.
If it rains very heavily at the end of the day, we will keep children inside; if this is the case, we will ask parents to pick their children up from their classes. We would also ask you kindly to leave pushchairs in the halls and carry small children up the stairs.
Crocs
Please remember to send your child to school with sensible shoes. Slip-on shoes which can easily fall off, like ‘crocs’, are not allowed. Thank you for helping us keep our children safe.
Reflection room
Unfortunately, there are times when children misbehave; depending on the circumstances and age of the child, this may result in a sanction such as spending time in our ‘reflection room’. Reflection room happens at lunchtime; children who meet the ‘reflection room’ threshold (for example, they have physically hurt another child, have been racist or disrespectful to an adult in the school) are expected to eat their lunch in the reflection room under the supervision of a member of SLT and spend all or some of their lunch break there. This is in order to reflect on their behaviour and the impact this has had on others.
Parent/ teacher meetings
We will have our parent/ teacher meetings on November 20th. Please remember that school will close at 1 pm for this occasion.
Chess award
We are very proud to announce that our school has been given a chess award in recognition of our workaround promoting chess, both within our school and beyond. Thank you to our Year 6 teacher, Chris Noronha, who has worked with drive and passion in promoting chess.
The award was given to us by CSC (Chess in schools and communities) for the following reasons:
Stepney Park Primary School in London has been a shining example of the growth of chess in Tower Hamlets. For several years, every Year 4 student has benefited from chess lessons delivered by CSC tutor Shohreh Bayat, alongside a thriving chess club and a series of monthly chess tournaments led by Y6 teacher Chris Noronha. These tournaments have expanded significantly over the past three years, involving multiple local schools and culminating in a season finale in Canary Wharf.
Thank you for reading this newsletter and for your continued support.
Kind regards.
