From the Headteacher
31.10.23
Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park Primary School,
Children may have heard about and may be anxious about the war in Gaza, and they may want to talk to you about what is happening or about their worries.
Our advice would be to let them talk to you about what is worrying them and to try and reassure them. For example, you could say:
-
I understand you may be worried
-
It’s happening in countries far away
-
People are trying to help
-
People are trying to stop the war
-
Try to not look at things online as they might be upsetting and wrong
-
Talk to me or to school staff if you are worried
School staff have been briefed on how to respond to children’s questions and anxieties, and they follow DFE guidance.
When questions arise they will only present a brief overview of the conflict and will not discuss particular details. We will let you know if your child asks us more detailed questions.
If you feel that you or your child need support with this at school or if you are concerned about anything, please let us know.
Please monitor your child’s internet use because we know that some children may see inappropriate content online, e.g. on YouTube, TikTok or other social media. Instead, we would advise children to use BBC Newsround, which is news created specifically for children.
Kind regards,
Edith Philipsen
