The School Council meet their first MP

We are really developing our understanding of politics as we met Rushanara Ali, our local member of parliament (MP)

We were really lucky to have a visit from our local MP Rushanara Ali this term.

Firstly, she came and met the school council and then gave an assembly to Years 5 and 6. Rushanara spoke of her early life and how she became an MP.

In addition, she told us about her job as minister for housing and homelessness. Interestingly, she grew up in our local area and went to school near us! The school council thought of some really interesting questions for Rushanara. Sayed asked, ‘ If you could make a new law, what would it be?’ To which Rushanara replied that she would end child poverty.

Yacub asked what Rushanara’s daily routine is as a minister and MP and she spoke of visiting her constituents (us!) and spending time at Parliament.  What an inspiring visit!

Thank you School Council for representing our school so well.
