Class Learning

More great learning this term!

Year 4

In Year 4, we have been learning about soup making and trying news things like Taibah the tiger.  First,  we started by tasting a variety of soups to inspire our own nutritious, seasonal soup recipes. During our tasting session, we tried cream of mushroom, potato and leek, carrot and coriander and a tomato soup, we then listed all of the key ingredients we could taste, deciding whether they were ‘sweet’ or ‘savoury’.  ‘ I liked the mushroom soup because it was thick and creamy…’ Junaid explained. Amaya enjoyed the carrot and coriander because it was ‘...tangy and sweet’ whilst Liyana described the leek and potato soup as ‘chunky and filling’.

We have been learning about the seasonality of fruits and vegetables, along with the specific skills needed in the kitchen to safely use equipment. We will be choosing seasonal winter vegetables to create our own winter soups and learning how to peel, chop and hold our ingredients safely, using techniques such as the ‘claw’ grip and the ‘bridge’ hold.

The children cannot wait to get creative in the kitchen this week and are looking forward to sharing their soups and recipes with their families.

Year 3

3 Oak (and the rest of Year 3!) had a great time visiting the Natural History Museum this term.

Everyone had the opportunity to visit the Museum and see all of the different fossils , mammals and even dinosaurs that were displayed. Umaymah (3 Oak) loved learning all about Mary Anning (English Palaeontologist) who is known as one of the greatest fossil hunters to have ever lived.

Over the past two weeks, we have been practising our non chronological writing skills while learning about The Stone Age in History.

Like the other children across the school, 3 Oak have enjoyed taking part in our Science lessons. The children enjoyed learning about and taking part in experiments linked to our Science topic - Rocks and Fossils.

Here is a picture of our Jam sandwiches that were made to represent the different layers that make up sedimentary rocks. We had so much fun making this and learning at the same time!

Everyone has had a brilliant start to our second term and we are excited to continue our learning journey in Year 3!

Year 5

Year 5 Overnight Trip to Gilwell Park

Year 5 students had an exciting overnight trip to Gilwell Park. For some of them, it was their first night away from their parents, which was a big step! Everyone was very brave and excited for the adventure.

We did three amazing activities:

  • Crate Stacking: We worked together to build tall towers out of crates and tried to climb them without falling. It was a great way to practice teamwork and balance!

  • The Gauntlet: This was an obstacle course with ropes, climbing, and challenges. Everyone cheered each other on, even when it got tricky.

  • Backwoods Cooking: We cooked simple food over an open fire. It was so much fun to make our own snacks outdoors!

The students enjoyed running around in the fresh air, and we all got a bit muddy during the activities—but that was part of the fun! In the evening, we sat together, played games, and watched a film.

This trip helped everyone build confidence, make new memories, and bond with their classmates. Thank you to the staff and parents who made this trip possible. We can’t wait for our next adventure!

Year 6

Year 6 Oak have been in the Art Studio. They were challenged to answer the following questions…

  • How can you represent a continent using clay?

  • Using clay, can you represent physical features, such as a forest or a mountain range?

  • How will clay react with water?

  • How can you make your model unique?

Reception

Last week, Reception Oak went on a trip to the Idea Store in Whitechapel! We walked there with our parents. We were responsible like Ruby the Robin; looking out for cars as we crossed the road to keep safe.

When we got to the library, the librarian read us a story.  He also got us to join in with lots of different actions. We then had a look around the library and read some books with our parents. We had such a fun day out and we can’t wait to visit again with our parents in our own time.

Year 1

In Year 1 we have been enjoying our weekly visits to the Art Studio.

For many of the children, it is the first time taking part in Art lessons, and they have shown so much creativity and interest. Using pencil, pen and charcoal, Year 1 have been exploring a range of ways to create marks and demonstrating great curiosity as they create their own works of art. Children have worked independently for some pieces of art, but have also worked together as classes to make collaborative artworks using paint.
