Tuesday 11th June

Dear parents and carers of Stepney Park Primary School.

Eid Al Adha school closure and picnic in the park

It is almost time for our Muslim families to celebrate Eid Al - Adha, so our school will be closed on Monday Jun 17th.

We would like to facilitate an Eid family event and would like to encourage families to come and celebrate together on Tuesday 18th June, after school in Stepney Green park, which is only a short walk away from school.

This is how it will work:

  • School closes as normal on Tuesday June 18th at 3.30 pm.

  • Families come to school to pick up their children at 3.30 pm and make their own way over to the park.

  • Families will bring their own food, drinks, picnic blankets etc.

  • Staff who are able to do so will join families in the park once all the children have been picked up.

  • After school clubs will run as normal.

We hope that the weather will be good and that many families are able to join us after school to mark the occasion!

Year 4 sleepover

Our year 4 children had an amazing time last week, during their ‘in school’ sleepover. Well over 100  Year 4 children stayed and took part in many activities, ate delicious pizza, slept in the halls on camping mats and had an amazing breakfast in the sunny playground the next morning. Thank you to all staff who generously gave up their time and stayed late or overnight.

The ‘in school’ sleepover is part of our trips and residentials programme. This  gets progressively more adventurous and challenging over time and is offering children opportunities to develop independence and resilience, two of our very important school values.  The increasing level of challenge is as follows:

  • Yr 3: late stay in school

  • Yr 4: overnight stay in school

  • Yr 5: overnight stay in Gilwell Park

  • Yr 6: two night camping stay in Mersea.

We hope to be able to carry on providing these trips and challenges to our children next year, as the children love them and because they are a great preparation for the children’s future independent lives.

Bringing things into school

We would like to ask parents to help us ensure that children do not bring personal items such as money, toys, collectable cards, phones and books into school from home unless this was individually agreed by a member of SLT. These things  can pose a theft risk and are frequently a cause for arguments.

Exceptions for this could be agreed by members of SLT and this would be based on the child’s need. Exceptions include;

  • A special educational need or a disability

  • Children in Yr 5 or 6 who are going home alone. (If for this reason children need a mobile phone, it would need to be left in the school office and signed in and out every day)

Thank you for your help with this.

Pass it on weeks/ Uniforms

Please note a slight change of dates:

  • July 1st to July 10th: donate school uniform tops at the school gates. No need to wear a school uniform

  • July 11th and 12th: ‘Pass it on event’ in the school playground. Please come and help yourself!

Medical Needs

Please keep us informed of any new or changing medical needs by telling staff in the office. Please also make sure that the medicines we have in school for your child, including asthma pumps, are not out of date.

Thank you for reading this newsletter and hope to see you soon.

Kind regards.
